At the seminal event of “Women Who Test” organised by the group’s Bangalore chapter on 18th November, our experts- Sr. Vice President, Rajini Padmanaban, and Sr. Accessibility Lead Engineer, Rohan Sharma, conferred a webinar on “An Introduction to Digital Accessibility”.
The webinar essentially focused on the intrinsic nuances of digital accessibility, starting from its very definition and the need and importance of accessibility, especially in this day and age. With over 15% of the world’s population being differently abled, the webinar threw light upon the types of disabilities that exist, including visual, motor, hearing and cognitive impairments. As the set compliance standards and guidelines including Section 508, WCAG 2.1 and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), were highlighted, the nuances and aspects within were elaborated upon thoroughly.
With a key focus on testing strategy and process for accessibility, our experts brought out the streamlined and novel approach that we follow at QA InfoTech– a paired testing approach. As an abled SME and a differently abled engineer collaborate to identify accessibility bugs and expand the test coverage, the effectiveness of the whole test strategy increases two-fold. The use of assistive technology and tools was also an area well dwelt upon.
This webinar brought forth the significance of building an inclusive digital environment and space, especially in 2020 wherein being digitally accessible has become the need of the hour. To enable digital accessibility within the core engineering efforts and enhancing end-user experience, this webinar focused on the pressing needs of 2020. It is time that everyone realises the importance and gravity of a digitally accessible space.
